Encryption

Encryption isn’t just for top secret agents and careless politicians that leave their laptops on the train…

Encryption affects all of us and there are different levels depending on what kind of data you need to keep secure.

Items you might want to encrypt:

  • Laptop computer
  • Desktop computer
  • USB sticks
  • Emails and attachments

Laptop and desktop encryption

Laptop and desktop encryption will encrypt everything on your computer. This is probably the most important thing for you to encrypt particularly if you’re in a business environment.

USB sticks

If you use USB sticks for sensitive data, getting them encrypted is essential. It’ll also give you peace of mind should you lose one.

Email encryption

Email encryption can be split into two areas – encryption of attachments, or encryption of the whole email. You can encrypt your own attachments by creating a password-protected Word document. When you attach this to an email, anything written in the email itself won’t be encrypted, but the Word attachment will be.

Encrypting a whole email is more involved and requires both sender and receiver to have encryption software installed. For most regular business users this level of encryption is unnecessary but we can advise on appropriate solutions should this be important for your business.

We can advise you

Encryption can seem a bit daunting – we can advise you as to what level would be suitable for your business and how best to go about it.
