About The Company
sfG Software Ltd is young IT software and support company where we believe that our success is driven by the quality of our people. We believe that the most effective organisations are employee-owned and this is reflected in the opportunities we provide people who share our values and want to be part of the team.
We are looking for a high quality software engineer who is interested in joining a forward-thinking experienced team where you have the potential to be part of the ownership of the company. Most of all, you must be keen to work within a flexible environment where the job requirements can change from day to day but where you are able to make a significant impact.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious software developer who is looking for an opportunity to develop his or her skills in a dynamic environment, getting involved in all aspects of software design and development.
Job Objectives
The requirements of the job are varied. We are looking for someone who is willing to be part of a team, doing whatever tasks are required to deliver high quality software products to our customers. This might one day involve sitting at your desk writing lines of code, and the next day visiting a customer’s site to talk to them about what they want from their software applications and how you can deliver it. The one thing for sure is that it will not be dull!
We believe that people skills are just as important as technical skills, so we are not looking for technical experts who want to sit in a dark room. We need people who can communicate well with our customers, understand their requirements clearly, and translate those requirements into software that is a joy to use.
Specific Responsibilities
This role would ideally suit a graduate who has a year or two of experience. Responsibilities will include:
- All aspects of the full software development lifecycle including requirements analysis, design, development, testing and training
- Visiting customers’ sites to gather requirements
- Creation of functional designs, specifications and costings to be presented to the customer
- Preparing and ‘selling’ proposals to potential customers
- Programming into order to turn the above proposals into high quality software applications
Required Knowledge and Skills
- 1-2 years experience of programming and systems design – the actual languages are less important than proven experience in coding high quality applications
- Experience in one of the following technologies essential: Microsoft .NET Framework, C#, VB.NET, ASP.NET, Delphi 2005/2009
- Any experience in WPF, XML, Web Services, XHTML, Javascript, AJAX or JQuery would be an advantage
- Working knowledge of SQL – preferably MS SQL Server
- Experience of maintaining, extending and amending existing software as well as creating new programs
- Good analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication. Being able to communicate in ‘plain English’ is at least as important as good technical skills
- A self-starter who is comfortable working alone or within a team
- Prepared to be flexible and open-minded about all aspects of the job
Location
Initially based 15 miles from Inverness, but flexible home-working opportunities may become available.
Salary and Benefits
We offer a highly attractive package that includes professional training, share ownership, and a salary that reflects the high calibre of the people that we employ.
