DrayTek products have always performed well for our customers and provide a cost-effective network solution, while still providing the advanced features that would normally cost more.
What products do DrayTek make?
DrayTek’s products include routers, wireless access points and network switches. Examples of where you might use these products are:
- Creating a wireless network in a home/office/business (these can be scaled up to cover large areas). This allows central management of your access points.
- Creating a site to site or teleworker to site VPN (virtual private network) allowing multiple sites to be connected and flexible working.
- Filtering network traffic by using the Globalview Web Filtering service within the router to provide safe and secure internet access.
What does it mean to be a DrayTek ANP?
The DrayTek Advanced Networking Partner accreditation shows that we have the technical abilities to implement varied (and sometimes complex) network solutions and don’t rely on the manufacturer for all product support.

Fraser is one of our software developers at sfG and has been with us for over five years now. He is a keen cyclist on and off road and has an impressive collection of bikes! He set off on his Highland Trail 2016 challenge from Tyndrum early this morning and is already well on his way.
The Highland Trail is a 550+ mile unassisted time trial taking riders through some of the most remote, scenic and toughest terrain in the Highlands of Scotland. Last year Fraser completed the challenge in a very impressive third place in miserable weather after a final push of around 46 hours without sleep! He hopes to better that this time around despite being full of the cold in the office all week. At least the weather appears to be on his side this time.
Good luck Fraser!
Last week we had another sfG team night out, this time at the new Inverness Kart Raceway. We all loved it and enjoyed a bit of competitive fun (and possibly the odd bit of cheating) along the way.
We are Proud to Support Inverness Kart Raceway by becoming a track-side sponsor.
We’re very proud to be supporting the new social enterprise, Inverness Kart Raceway (IKR) with our track-side advertising.
IKR is a not-for-profit social enterprise company with 100% of the profits going to support disadvantaged young people get into work here in the Highlands. Find out more on their website – www.invernesskartraceway.co.uk
We’ll be visiting IKR very soon for a sfG team karting night. No doubt it’ll be a fiercely competitive occasion as well as a lot of fun!
Team Social to welcome our new Software Developer
On Tuesday night we returned to Experience 4×4 to do some more off-road driving fun then headed to Cafe 1 where we had an excellent meal. Not that we need much of an excuse to justify a night out but this time it was to welcome Dave, our new Software Developer to the sfG team.
Good fun, good food and good company. Welcome to the team Dave!
P.S. Thanks to Shane who couldn’t make it so covered the helpdesk while we were out enjoying ourselves!

Job Description – Senior .Net Software Developer
Are you an ambitious Software Developer who wants to develop your technical skills in an environment where your skills are recognised and valued?
Would you like to work for a small company so you get the chance to make a difference rather than being another cog in a big machine?
Would you like to live in the Highlands of Scotland where the lifestyle is as important as the work?
sfG Software is always looking to see how new technologies can benefit us and our customers – so that we can make our ‘Giant’ service even better. We build software for order processing, booking systems, mentoring platforms and factory floors – from desktop and server software to web applications and websites. These may be one‐off bespoke projects, off‐the‐shelf or software as a service – and there’s always some unusual problem that we’re asked to fix in a hurry that involves some creative thinking. We get on very well with our customers and like to keep work enjoyable – we are a ‘friendly’ company to work for!
Due to our continued growth, we are seeking a high quality senior software developer who is interested in joining a forward‐thinking experienced team. We need someone who is comfortable with the entire software development lifecycle, from creating accurate estimates and writing specs, to developing and testing high quality software. We value Microsoft certifications, and we will give you support to allow you to pass the relevant exams. We will provide a fun and supportive environment to work in; living in one of the best places in the country to live while still providing the opportunities to grow your career and your technical experience within a rapidly growing company.
The requirements of the job are varied. We are looking for someone who is willing to be part of a team, doing whatever tasks are required to deliver high quality software products to our customers. This might one day involve sitting at your desk writing lines of code, and the next day visiting a customer’s site to talk to them about what they want from their software applications and how you can deliver it. The one thing for sure is that it will not be dull!
We believe that people skills are just as important as technical skills, so we are not looking for technical experts who want to sit in a dark room. We need people who can communicate well with our customers, understand their requirements clearly, and translate those requirements into software that is a joy to use.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience of programming and systems design
- Attention to detail and a passion for producing high quality software
- Excellent customer facing skills
- C# / .Net Framework using Visual Studio for Web and/or Windows development
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Full project lifecycle
- Supporting and developing existing applications as well as legacy software
Additional Skills which would be useful
- WPF using MVVM
- ASP.NET MVC
- Entity Framework
- HTML5 / CSS
- Web Services / WCF
- Crystal Reports and/or Microsoft Reporting
- WordPress development / PHP
- Web Design / SEO
- Any server/network support and setup experience

We recently contacted our local MP Danny Alexander to talk about fibre broadband for Highland businesses
We wrote to Danny Alexander – the MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey – to ask him if he was aware of many businesses in Inverness and the Highlands who were unable to get superfast fibre broadband… and if there was anything he could do to help.
Despite the fact that all of our staff who live in Inverness having superfast broadband installed in their homes, our sfG office – located in a large business park in Inverness – cannot access this service. This situation is mirrored in many other businesses, not just in Inverness but in many other superfast broadband enabled towns in the Highlands. There appears to be a push to supply fibre broadband to as many homes as possible while the businesses who would arguably benefit the most are left waiting!
Danny popped into the sfG office in the Green House at Beechwood Business Park in Inverness yesterday to chat to David Garvie, our Managing Director. Danny got the chance to see the work we do and just how much benefit superfast broadband would be to companies like us and to our customers.
Hopefully Danny can twist a few arms at BT and more business premises in Inverness reap the benefits of a fast internet connection sometime soon.
We would like to wish all of our customers, partners, suppliers and friends a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2015!
We know that many of our customers don’t have the luxury of taking a couple of weeks off over the festive season… so we don’t either!
We are closed on Christmas day, Boxing day and New Year’s day but will be open as normal – including out of hours support – for the rest of the holiday period.
A Good Year
We’ve had a very good year at sfG in 2014 and have welcomed many new customers along the way. We’ve also welcomed two more highly experienced members to our team to help with the extra growth and ensure that the level of service is maintained.
Thank you to everyone involved. Have a great time over the festivities – we look forward to working with you in 2015.
